Neil Blake, Grand Central Magazine
The 19th annual Central Michigan University Powwow contest took place on March 29 and 30, 2008 in Rose Arena. Powwows are traditionally social and dancing events which also have religious significance. Native American pride and tradition are clearly evident. There are several categories of dance including traditional, grass, jingle dress, and fancy dances. The regalia of the dancers vary greatly from person to person but bright colors and bells are most popular.
