Putting home hair care remedies to the test
Amber Martin, Grand Central Magazine
BUSTED - Mayonnaise is counter-productive. It is
meant to reduce frizz, but when rinsing out the mayonnaise the
user must shampoo so much that it dries the hair out again.

After becoming sick of trying
different home hair care remedies that didn’t work, I decided to test
a few on different test subjects in search of the best of the best.
Depending on the test subject’s particular hair “problem,” they
were given a home remedy to try. After three showers (unless otherwise
directed by the home remedy), the subjects reported back what they had
(or had not) noticed after using their respective home remedies.
For oily
hair:
- Add a couple drops
of dishwashing liquid to shampoo – TRUE
- Don’t use conditioner
– BUSTED
For dry, frizzy hair:
- Sleep with mayonnaise
in your hair, with hair wrapped in a towel, done twice a week – BUSTED
- Shampoo only the
roots, letting the suds drip down the ends – TRUE
- Leave conditioner
in for five minutes before rinsing –BUSTED
For strength or shine:
- ½ cup of whole
milk – TRUE
- Rinse with lemon
juice – TRUE
